CALL FOR THIRD-PARTY COMMENTS
FOR INSTITUTIONS SCHEDULED FOR REVIEW IN 2011 and 2012

The Commission on Colleges’ policy, called “Third-Party Comment by the Public” (see policy listed below), replaces provisions formerly incorporated in the Commission’s Disclosure Policy and outlines procedures for public use in the submission of third-party comments by any interested party during the formal scheduled review of the following institutions:

  • Institutions seeking initial accreditation with the Commission
  • Institutions seeking reaffirmation of accreditation (continued accreditation) with the Commission

The policy requires appropriate notification and ample opportunity for the institution to respond to third-party comments. The “Third-Party Comment Form” should be completed and submitted to the President of the Commission on Colleges.

For institutions seeking initial accreditation with the Commission in 2011 or 2012

The following institutions either were granted initial candidacy or were continued in candidacy for two years in June 2010.  They will be reviewed for continued candidacy/initial accreditation in 2011-2012, depending on the readiness of the institution, but not later than June 2012. Third-party comments are due January 15, 2011.

  • American College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, Houston, TX
  • Appalachian College of Pharmacy, Oakwood, VA
  • Digital Media Arts College, Boca Raton, FL
  • Lanier Technical College, Oakwood, GA
  • South Georgia Technical College, Americus, GA
  • Southern Virginia University, Buena Vista, VA

For member institutions seeking reaffirmation of accreditation (continued accreditation) with the Commission in 2011 and 2012

An institution undergoing reaffirmation of accreditation has its Compliance Certification reviewed by an Off-Site Review Committee and, approximately six months later, hosts an On-Site Reaffirmation Committee which issues the final report. The Commission divides each reaffirmation class into two Tracks: Track A denotes institutions that offer only undergraduate degrees; Track B denotes institutions that offer graduate and professional degrees and may also offer undergraduate degrees.

Listed below are the reaffirmation classes for 2011 and 2012 divided by Track A and Track B.  The due date for third-party comments is listed at the top of each list. (Please use the “Third-Party Comment Form” when submitting comments.) The specific date will give the Commission adequate time to notify the institution regarding any third-party comments and provide the institution ample time to respond in advance of the campus review. Substantive comments regarding the Committee’s findings will be incorporated into the final report of the Committee.

Please refer to the attached lists to access the Track A and Track B institutions scheduled for reaffirmation of accreditation in 2011 and 2012. Comments should be forwarded to the President of the Commission on Colleges.
